Painting Ceramics for Thanksgiving

Handprint turkey with thumbprint leaves
Thanksgiving is a time to relax and enjoy family and friends.  It is an “aah” moment before the hectic holiday season gets into full swing.  Make your Thanksgiving dinner extra special this year with a personalized plate for every family  member.  What about  a handpainted platter for the turkey and dressing?  Here is another idea…. make your gathering a festive event and actually paint some keepsakes at home on Thanksgiving Day.  How fun to put everyone’s  thumbprint on a platter and turn the thumbprints into little leaves.  Then fill the middle of the platter with all of the youngest generation’s handprints and add the details to make them all little turkeys.

Scary-good ideas for special Halloween items

Halloween is one of my favorite times around the studio, because the holiday lends itself so well to creative ideas for pottery.

Whether it’s taking a normal mug or jar and turning it into the perfect Halloween pumpkin with a great paint job, or creating a one-of-a-kind candy dish for trick-or-treaters, our customers always come up with fun ideas this time of year.

One of my favorite projects around Halloween is creating a candy dish using our glass fusing techniques. Typical Halloween symbols like jack-o-lanterns and candy corn are usually easy to recreate with glass, so the projects turn out well and become fun seasonal decorations for years to come.
